No Response at All
Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28 ESV).
Today is National Autism Awareness Day. I am thinking about parents and dear friends who are facing real life challenges with loved ones.
I wrote a song that's on my most recent CD "Follow Your Call." Here are the notes that go with the song:
With a title like this, I don’t have much more to say. Silence amidst the pain is sometimes the only song one can sing.  But I can say this: I wrote this song out of my own experience. If you listen closely you will be, I hope, drawn into the scene of a young man watching his little girl being tested for her hearing. You may sense the lump in the throat and the knot in the stomach.
Maybe as I write and sing about the childish naiveté to her own challenges, the simple faith and hope that brought me to my knees, you will understand. Maybe you have been there. Maybe you are there now.

I dedicate this song to parents of children with disabilities with a prayer that they will know the presence and power of the risen Christ in their midst.

You had your test
And you did your best
A little girl with wires on her head
But would she hear
The words that I said
No response at all

As she played one day
She signed my way
"When Jesus comes
You know that I'll rejoice,
For then I'll hear the sound of
Daddy's voice"
And I had(p)
No response at all

I wrote this song
For all those who long
To watch their children
Laugh and walk and see
And hear the wind
And breathe the air
So free
This is His response
"Come unto Me"

No Response at All is available as a single on iTunes.
