iTunes, RTS Charlotte, Ellie Wiesel, Buddhists, and the Marketplace of Ideas There are some exciting things going on at RTS Charlotte. Our summer classes are well underway and being taught by stellar visiting professors. Right now I am thinking about some things that are going on outside the classroom walls. It has to do with “iTunes, RTS Charlotte, Ellie Wiesel, Buddhists, and the Marketplace of Ideas.” This week, of the top ten most downloaded lectures/sermons on the RTS site of iTunes, three are from RTC Charlotte faculty: John Currid, Doug Kelly and me. We join a list of godly pastor-scholars from our sister campuses. We are honored, indeed truly humbled, to be in their company. Of particular interest to me is that in the humanities section of downloads from all universities on iTunes U, we have a number five slot. That slot, a message I gave on “Discerning God’s Will for Your Life,” is shared in the top ten list with Ellie Wiesel and also a lecture from another professor on “Becoming a Buddhist Monk.” Amazing. There is no way to pay for that kind of exposure or to calculate the number of people this reaches. There is no way to calculate the effects God is bringing on the souls of human beings around the world for the glory of His name. I am hesitant to share this because one should not toot one’s own horn. But I agree that letting our folks know about our work is very important and I thought: How could we possibly have multiplied the ministry of the Word of God any more than through this? How could RTS Charlotte be more well-represented in our seminary institution than in this area? Here our professors’ lectures and messages are competing with the lectures of secularists, humanists, atheists, and Buddhists! The Lord, through the auspices of Steve Jobs and Apple (and the excellent work of Andy, Lyn and so many others on our great team) has placed us, strategically and boldly and Providentially, smack dab in the middle of the marketplace of ideas in the world today. The message? The Gospel, the teaching of the Word of God, is going forward. To God alone be all glory and honor.
