Dr. Michael Kruger, Associate Professor of New Testament, Academic Dean

The Reverend Dr. Michael J. Kruger is our academic dean. But he is more. He is a pastor at Uptown Christ Covenant Church and is a leading thinker in the PCA and an up and coming scholar in the world. Mike's research work in early Christian manuscripts is providing great service to the Church of Jesus Christ in the 21st Century. This is critical in a time when there are spurious attacks on the faith by new Gnosticism and popular novels and movies that aim to discredit the Word of God and the ministry of the Church.

That level of scholarship is not just for Cambridge, where Mike is spending a semester in collaborative research with other world-class scholars. Dr. Kruger brings that scholarship into the classroom as well. Our students leave as pastors who are well grounded in the Word of God through Dr. Kruger's New Testament classes so that they can defend the faith and equip the saints to do the same. This is the kind of impact that Michael Kruger is having in the Church today. And we are thankful he is at RTS Charlotte.

Dr. Kruger received his B.S. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, his M.Div. from Westminster Seminary California, and his Ph.D. from New College, The University of Edinburgh, Scotland.

He is the author of The Gospel of the Savior (E.J. Brill, 2005), and his articles appear in such journals as The Journal of Theological Studies, The Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society, The Expository Times, and The Master's Seminary Journal. His research interests center upon Christian Origins, particularly the development of the New Testament canon within the context of the early church.

Prior to joining the RTS faculty, Dr. Kruger served in the pastorate for several years at Church of the Redeemer in Phoenix, AZ. There he developed a passion for preaching and ministry that he now passes on to his students in the classroom.

Reflections

“The one passionate desire of my heart has been to lead my hearers to Christ. I have never entered a pulpit without feeling that, if only people could catch a vision of the Saviour, they would have no alternative but to lay their devotion at his feet. My soul has caught fire whenever I have exalted the cross.”
